There are categories to describe encounters, beginning with the first kind: unidentified objects are seen at close range, but leave no physical evidence behind; the second kind; UFO sightings are accompanied by physical evidence left behind; the third kind; actual contact with alien beings and lastly; the fourth kind; humans who are abducted and abused by aliens.

Many pilots and astronauts have witnessed unidentified objects in the skies around the world.  Kenneth Arnold was the first civilian pilot to report unidentified objects in the skies. He described nine objects, shaped like saucers skipping across water, hence the term “flying saucers.”

The Mexican military released videos of objects viewed using an infra red camera, which were not visible on radar or to the naked eye, and many pilots report seeing lights over the Gulf of Mexico.  Skeptics believe the lights are from an offshore drilling platform.  Flames from the rigging shoot hundreds of feet in the air are caused by burning off excess gas to reduce pressure on the wells.  These flames may be the source of the objects observed by military.  

July 11, 1991 a total eclipse of the sun was caught on tape by hundreds of Mexican citizens. They also captured an image of a shining object, believed to be an oscillating craft. The videos are presented as evidence of the existence of UFOs, however skeptics still question the conclusions drawn.

Tom Callen is an astronomer and scientist who has reviewed the reports of UFO sightings and he believes the Mexico City UFO witnesses actually saw Venus and attributes the saucer shape to camera distortion.  

Crop circles and even strange patterns appearing in grassy areas, are often attributed to alien space craft.  Near Guadalajara, spherical lights have appeared and changed the appearance of grass.  Samples are being taken to determine if the grass was radiated by the light.  Others believe the grass may be affected by fungus living below the surface, which can create the phenomenon called “Fairy Rings.” Tests did not indicate increased levels of radiation. 

Despite the high number of documented sightings in Mexico, there are few reports of abductions in countries other than USA.

Dr. David Jacobs has worked with abductees helping them recall buried memories of their experiences.  Jacobs believes at least 5 million Americans have been abducted and he has interviewed hundreds of witnesses who report similar encounters.  Subjects will see figures and hear humming. They are unable to move while their bodies are levitated to the crafts and then endure torture at the hands of aliens.

According to Dr. Susan Clancy, the abductees she has worked with obtained memories through hypnosis and guided imagery.  She believes the memories were planted during the process, and are not actual memories of abduction.  Subjects are susceptible to cues given by the therapist or environment.  

Dr. Jacobs believes the extraterrestrials try to block memories of abductions so hypnosis is often necessary to unlock the memories.   Abductees report several different species of beings, small gray figures or large creatures with enormous eyes.  The experimentations range from observations to sexual assaults.

Evidence is also being gathered in sleep research.  Sleep paralysis occurs around Rapid Eye Movement (REM).  The brain disconnects movements during dream stage so we don’t move while dreaming and if the connection is not made when a person awakens, they will experience paralysis. Some people experience hallucinations. They may see a figure or sense a presence and may even feel as though their body is floating.  It is a space between dreaming and waking where terror occurs.
