Write a Non-Fiction Book

There is a huge market for Non Fiction Books.  Readers are interested in learning ways to solve problems or fill a need.  If you have a special skill or experience, you can write a non fiction book to share your knowledge.

You can write about hobbies or sports. If you’ve ever coached for a little league team, you could write about teaching team work to kids.  If you’ve researched your family tree, you can share resources.  If you’ve planned a wedding or big event, you can give tips for hiring professionals, making reservations and tracking activities.

You can write about your personal experiences, especially if you’ve overcome a problem and can offer advice to others. Have you lost weight and kept it off?  Have you been diagnosed with a disease and learned ways to cope with or ease the symptoms?  I once experienced a difficult financial period and found great advice to get out of debt, save and prepare an emergency fund.  I could write a book about the evils of credit cards and consumerism.  Have you ever thought “I could write a book about….?”  If you’ve gone through an experience and learned from it, someone else could benefit from your lesson.

Too often we take our own knowledge for granted, assuming it is common knowledge.  In fact, we each possess unique and valuable knowledge. What could you teach others?  To save money using coupons or take candid photographs?  I’ve acquired professional knowledge such as: leading a meeting, public speaking, project management and setting goals, and I’ve acquired personal knowledge such as; decorating on a budget, scrap booking and creative writing.

My favorite non fiction books are inspirational. Maybe you have a positive, uplifting or spiritual message to share.  It may seem like there are already so many books on the subject, there’s no sense in adding one more, however, you can never have too much positive thought.

Non fiction books offer solutions or information to solve problems.  Your marketing plan should clearly state the problem which your book addresses.  The more intense and immediate the problem, the more urgently readers will seek your work. Present your solution is easy, logical steps.  This way you will appeal to audiences seeking quick, simple fixes to their problems.   Just think of all the “For Dummy” books available.
