Get Creative With Old Ideas

Audre Lorde, an American poet, once said “There are no new ideas. There are only new ways of making them felt.”

Ideas may resemble one another at first glance like sisters standing side by side, but upon closer inspection, distinctions can be made.  Stories of love, redemption or corruption, while similar in theme are unique in the telling.  Rather than waiting for your muse to whisper an idea that no one has had before, take an idea and make it your own.

I don’t mean rewrite what has been written, rather expound upon it and provide a unique perspective.

You may have read of the Wonderlands and Alice’s journey. That was just the beginning of the story.  When Alice fell through the rabbit hole, she tore a rift through which nonsense began to seep from Wonderland.   Specimens, journals and artifacts were salvaged from the Wonderlands by a Professor of Biology at Miskatonic University. Imagine writing Professor Lake’s tale of a universe on the brink of extinction.  You don’t need to create your own Wonderland to be creative.

Consider these options…

The Queen of Hearts is misunderstood.  She is really quite sane, however her closest adviser is  orchestrating a coup.

Alice wasn’t the only child to follow the white rabbit down the hole. Another child had an adventure worthy of telling.

The Knave of Hearts was framed. Unravel the mystery of the missing tart (the Mad Hatter did it).
